What is a dental crown?
A dental crown is a type of restoration that is usually recommended to protect and strengthen a damaged tooth. It is designed to surround your existing tooth structure, restoring function and appearance.
There are several cases where a dental crown would be an appropriate option:
- Severe decay or infection has compromised the strength of the tooth
- Root canal treatment has left a tooth weak and brittle
- A tooth has already had multiple fillings and needs protection
- Teeth grinding has worn down a tooth and impacts your dental bite
We are pleased to offer both lab-fabricated dental crowns and CEREC crowns that allow us to deliver a final restoration in just one visit. With traditional crowns, we slightly alter the shape of the tooth to accommodate the crown. Next, we take impressions to create a model of the tooth. The model is sent to an outside lab where your crown is created, and the process takes two to three weeks.
For this reason, many of our patients choose CEREC crowns because they can leave our office the same day with a new crown. With CEREC, we take impressions of your teeth, create a virtual model, and fabricate your new crown right here in our office.
Dental crowns in our Fairfax, VA dental office will restore your tooth, improve function, and enhance your appearance. Please call us if you would like more information!
