Americans Want to See Their Dentist More

Dentist Fairfax VA

A recent survey asked 1,000 adults over the age of 18 which health practitioner they don’t see often enough and dentists topped the list. Nearly 41% of those surveyed chose their dentist, 13% more than the next specialist – dermatologist.

Participants were also asked to rank their own oral health. Not surprisingly, those who graded their health as an “A” were 25% more likely to choose dentists as the practitioner they want to see more often.

We have always known that oral health has an impact on confidence, and the survey reinforces this with 63% of participants saying that good oral health helps them feel confident.

The Oral-Systemic Connection

The survey also found that nearly 80% of participants understand that their oral health and overall health are closely related. Almost 48% of those who said their oral health was good also rated their overall well-being as very good, so it’s easy to see that a connection exists.

Understanding this is essential because there are numerous ways that poor oral health can undermine your general health and well-being. Numerous studies have proven this connection exists, and they link chronic dental problems to heart and lung disease, diabetes, stroke, and pregnancy complications to name just a few.

The positive takeaway is that even if patients are not seeing their dentist regularly, at least they are aware that they should be making more of an effort to keep up with regular appointments!
