Full & Partial Dentures in Fairfax VA
As we age, time takes its toll on our bodies, both inside and out. Our teeth become weaker and are more likely to become damaged or decayed. This is partially due to many years of stress and wear to which your teeth have been exposed.
Custom dentures created at Dr. Fairfax & Associates Family Dentistry can replace teeth that have been lost or damaged beyond the point of repair. Our durable, natural-looking dentures offer our patients restored function and improved aesthetics.
Benefits of Dentures
If you are missing multiple teeth, you may benefit from dentures. Dentures address tooth loss and allow patients to repair their smile so that they can eat, chew, and speak without difficulty. If the gums and surrounding teeth are healthy, dentures are a great treatment for patients who have lost most of their teeth or an entire arch of teeth.
Dentures are also effective when teeth have become so weak or damaged that extracting the tooth is the most sensible option. We can provide you with either partial or complete dentures, depending on your specific needs.
Types of Dentures We Offer
At Dr. Fairfax & Associates Family Dentistry, we’re equipped to offer our patients traditional dentures as well as secure implant-supported dentures. These options allow us to meet your unique needs and desires. We will consult with you and examine your teeth to determine which of these options will be most appropriate for your case.
Traditional full or partial dentures are a set of artificial teeth that are worn over the gums to replace lost teeth. The replacement teeth are constructed to the individual specifications of each patient and form a secure, comfortable seal with the gums. These dentures are removable, but our expertise in creating completely customized dentures minimizes the risk of them shifting or becoming loose.
Implant-retained dentures are secured to the mouth by dental implants surgically placed in the gum by Dr. Fairfax, then allowed to heal and fuse with the jawbone. We attach the dentures to abutments that protrude from the implants, offering you the most secure, comfortable fit available with dentures today.
A good candidate for implant-supported dentures has sufficient jawbone to support the implant. In cases where there has been a loss of bone, Dr. Fairfax may be able to perform bone graft surgery to accommodate the implant.
Whether you choose traditional or implant-supported dentures, you must take proper care of your dentures to prolong their life and keep the gums and remaining natural teeth healthy. You should clean your dentures regularly and, if they’re removable, you should brush and floss the gums and natural teeth as well.
