Crowns & Bridges in Fairfax VA
Damaged teeth can impact the way you look and feel about yourself. It’s hard not to feel self-conscious when you feel that your smile isn’t healthy or at its best.
We want to do everything we can to help you achieve the best possible oral health. Restoring a damaged smile has many benefits, not the least of which is protecting your long-term oral health. Aside from that, your confidence can also receive a big boost when you know your smile is as healthy and beautiful as it can be.
A dental crown fits over the entire tooth to restore its shape and size and provide support. We start by preparing your natural tooth so that the crown will fit perfectly. Next, we take impressions that are used to create your final crown. You'll wear a temporary crown for about two weeks, then return to our office so we can place the crown securely over your tooth.
Crowns are most often used to strengthen a weakened tooth, protect a tooth after root canal treatment, or restore a dental implant. Our crowns are fabricated at a high-quality dental lab to our exact specifications. We create beautiful, durable crowns that are sure to exceed your expectations!
CEREC Same Day Crowns
If you're interested in streamlining the process of having a crown placed, convenient same-day CEREC crowns are made from porcelain and do all the work of a traditional crown. The biggest advantage to choosing same-day crowns is that you don’t need to return to our office for multiple visits.
With CEREC, we start by preparing your tooth as we would for a traditional crown. Next, Dr. Fairfax takes an image of your tooth and uses it to create a model that's used to construct your new CEREC crown. Following the contours of this model, we construct your new crown from a block of porcelain. The crown is then adjusted for fit, polished, and secured in your mouth. This process usually only takes about two to three hours to complete. We can also use this method to create inlays and onlays in just one visit.
Fixed Bridges Replace Missing Teeth
A dental bridge is a dental prosthetic that is used to fill the space left by a missing tooth. This is referred to as a fixed bridge. The bridge is usually made as a single unit and includes an artificial tooth held in place by crowns that attach to the adjacent teeth.
One typical complaint associated with dental bridges is the strain and structural stress that they place on surrounding natural teeth. The team at Dr. Fairfax & Associates Family Dentistry can use a dental implant to anchor the bridge to take the pressure off your natural teeth and ensure a comfortable fit.
The process for placing a bridge is similar to that of a crown. We prepare the teeth, take impressions, then send them to a top dental lab where your restoration is custom-crafted. At your next visit, we’ll adjust the bridge as necessary to ensure a perfect fit and a fully functioning tooth.
